| March 21-23rd | Vereniging voor Militaire Living History | Fortress Loevestein | Winter bivouac of the Dutch-Belgian troops at the Fortress Loevestein, 1814: visit the soldiers of the newly raised Royal Dutch Army in their camp, watch them drill and demonstrate their firepower, and witness a small battle, as the French garrison in the town of Gorinchem try to preserve "La Hollande" for the Empire. Over 40 Dutch-Belgian infantry, aided by a "Landstorm"-unit of 25 armed peasants, a large group of Dutch Artillery from the militia of Den Bosch (Bois-le-Duc), and about 50 French infantry, together with a number of sutlers and campfollowers, make this bivouac a sight not to be missed! | - |
