St Richard and Pilgrimage Today is a three-day conference (11-13 June 2003) based at University College Chichester and jointly arranged by UCC and Chichester Cathedral. The conference, which celebrates the 750th anniversary of the death of St Richard of Chichester, is organized round three themes – historical, theological, and the response of the arts. Contributors include: David Jones, Philippa Hoskin, and Rachel Moriarty (on St Richard – sanctity, politics, and miracle tradition respectively); several speakers on war graves, and shrines marking road traffic deaths; and Stephen Medcalf, Stephen Cox, and Julie Held will talk about 20th century responses to pilgrimage in the arts. This conference presents an opportunity for institutions to share their experiences in developing portals. Portals promise much but how can the sector make the most of their deployment? The emphasis of the day will be on developing an overview and considering ways of serving user communities now and in the future - technology will be kept to a minimum.
