Good post, Roger. Informative and non-flammatory.
Obviously we can't demonstrate live firing to the public here - can you
imagine the Public Liability Insurance? However, SOSKAN has a demonstration
for new members and a reminder to old members of the damage that can be
caused by black powder alone, even without wadding or ball.
At three feet, a 65 grain charge will blow a hole through a Pepsi can and
send that can 25 feet down the field. This is a great reminder to one and all
of the danger of Black Powder. Although we pride ourselves on our commitment
to Living History and an accurate portrayal, you will consequently hear
Officers and NCO's exhorting the men to 'Aim High' rather than 'Aim Low'
heard most often during the war itself.
