Dear List
Some friends of ours who have belonged to a re-enactment group for a
few
years recently found themselves thrown out of it through failing to
turn
up to an event even though they had told the group leader that they
wouldn't be going.
Now obviously they are not happy about this and have asked for a
meeting
to discuss it but were refused. They don't know what to do next and are
reluctant to involve a solicitor due to the expense. They haven't had
any 'official' notification - just a ranting phone call off the
chairman
of the group announcing they were kicked out.
I'm sure it's not the first time that something like this has happened
but I just don't know what to suggest to them.I know that paying a
membership to a society gives you certain rights but how do you enforce
them if the chairman refuses to? Can anyone offer advice or know
someone
to contact. This was their first taste of re-enactment and they're now
very disillusioned - I'd like to be able to restore their faith. I
also
feel responsible because I suggested that they join the group in the
first place, so any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
Rosemary Jones
