I would say that they are best out of it. You could look through the
group's constitution, etc., but many small groups don't have them, and
are held together by one or two forceful personalities.

This is also why many small groups implode after a few years, as the
people leaving because they get Pi**ed off by the chairman outnumber
those who remain.

I can appreciate that they will have lost membership fees etc., but they
would be better served finding a new, more flexible, group than trying
to fight their way back into that one. It sounds like a group which
will have the browbeaten family of the chairman as the only members
fairly soon.

As for having their say, they will meet other members of the society at
multi-society events and explain their side of things, or even join up
with some of them to form a new, more democratic group.
