Dark Age and Saxon 400-1066AD
The period between the fall of the Roman Empire, or at least the year 410AD
(when the Romans left Briton with a view to returning when the internal politics had been resolved) is
the subject of this section of the Historical Reenactment Web Site.
Gildas wrote in the fifth century of matters relating to the Britons,
although most of the original inhabitants had migrated to the Welsh borders and even further. The name
"Darkage" is now no longer really applicable to this period as much has been re-discovered to make this
a period as well researched as any other in past history.
The Saxon infiltration of Briton and the influence of the Angles, Jutes
and the remenants of the Celts are the province of this section.
Vortigern (maybe the Arthur of legend) was a warrior of the times according
to some, was he a great leader of men or just fodder for the writers guilds of the romantic period
depicted by Charlemagne and, of course, Mallory in the great work "Morte de Artur"?
