Another major tenet of our approach is co-operation with academic and educational authorities to help to accrue and disseminate knowledge of this period.

Legio II Augusta is an Auckland-based re-enactment group involving the life and times of Rome and its provinces between 2nd and 6 century C.E. The name is taken from the last Legion to leave Britain at the time of Roman withdrawal in 650 C.E. which presaged the Viking invasions, the Arthurian period, and the beginning of the dark ages. Close contact is kept with similar groups in England, Australia, Europe, and the U.S.A.

It's the year 848 since the founding of Rome, several days march north of what will become Hadrian's Wall. The company is gearing up for a patrol. Soldiers adjust their gear and cinch up their sword belts. A couple of women are chatting about how quiet the camp will be when the men march off and another is chastising her man for forgetting his extra socks. Some children are kicking a ball with one of the soldiers... ...and the Centurio is barking the day's orders.

To commemorate graduation you deserve something more than a piece of paper. As in Ancient Rome your diploma will be two engraved brass plates tied together, written in English in Roman letters. This will be awarded at the end of the course along with a wooden Gladius sword (called a Rudius) on which is engraved your Roman Name AND your real Name.
