The Vikings 800-1150AD

Past Tents
Past Tents
Artwork: Gary Cooke

The Viking period has been given its' own section due to the location and the amazing reach and power that eminated from these isles. The influence of the Danes and other Scandinavian nations was noted across the whole of the known world at the time.

It has been noted that the Vikings sailing skills and, indeed fighting skills, were well known. Scandinavians working with the Varengian guard are well documented, the writings of such as Snorri Sturluson give a vivid insight into this particular period of time.

The travels and range of the Scandinavian sailors has become legendary, some of whome later based themselves in Northern France in the Normandy Province and eventually invaded England with William the Comquorer becoming the last successful King of England after a conquest.
